Aged for 10 months in extra-fine-grained French oak barrels, 20% of which are new. A further 10% of the wine is aged in Italian terracotta amphorae.
Crafted by our winemaker Montxo Martínez , under the guidance of renowned French winemaker Jean-Claude Berrouet. The wine is shaped around around freshness, finesse and elegance; rather than overripe fruit, excessive extraction or concentration. Rich in nuance, it evokes the vineyards from which it originates.
This vintage was affected by drought, which, together with the vine’s natural regulation following a generous vintage such as 2018, resulted in low yields. The grapes were small in size, increasing their concentration as well as the risk of producing excessively drying tannins. Thanks to the experience of the Berrouet family, we were able to understand how the grapes were ripening in order to determine the optimum harvest date and subsequently adapt our work in the winery to achieve elegant, refined wines with the greatest possible freshness. In the winery, we worked with very little extraction, and the use of new oak was considerably limited. New vessels, such as clay amphorae, were also introduced to enhance freshness during the wine’s ageing process. The 2019 vintage has a Saint-Émilion character while retaining the identity of Ribera del Duero. The tannins are clearly present but remain remarkably well preserved. Thanks to these characteristics, the wine offers a long, lingering finish and remarkable freshness. To fully enjoy all the splendour of La Fleur, we recommend decanting the wine before serving.
